Reflections on AI in Daily Life and Design

Hi, I’m Michelle. I’m a senior majoring in Digital Design.

How I Use AI in Daily Life

I don’t use AI all the time, but I find it very helpful for answering the little “stupid questions” that pop into my head. When I search on Google, the results often feel messy or irrelevant, but AI can summarize and respond clearly, and the most important thing is that it doesn’t “judge.”

Using AI in My Creative Process

Sometimes I use AI to organize my thoughts, since my ideas are often disorganized. I’m not always good at sorting through them because there are simply too many. AI helps me structure my creative process, evaluate my ideas, and decide which ones are worth developing further. This saves me time and helps me focus on what I truly want to create and what I can realistically achieve.

Surprising Insights from the Reading

One surprising idea from the reading is that AI can create an “illusion of understanding.” Because AI models are great at making predictions or generating papers, scientists may feel like they are making progress—but sometimes this progress is just moving in circles within the same frameworks. I used to think better predictions meant better science, but now I realize the most important part is true understanding.

Concerns About Bias in AI

Another thing that surprised me is that AI learns from large amounts of internet data, which means it also absorbs bias, discrimination, and stereotypes. I used to assume AI was fully objective, but in reality it is just reflecting the information it was trained on. This makes it important to remember that AI can reinforce bias without us noticing.

Human Creativity vs. AI

Although AI has powerful creative abilities, I still feel it is more of a task responder. In design, AI-generated works often look pieced together from existing sources. Human creations, by contrast, carry more emotion and feel more authentic. At this stage, I believe I can still create something original and emotional—something that AI cannot fully achieve yet.
